Paul Mescal is having a lot of fun right now. The Irish actor has just landed his first Oscar nomination for his role in Charlotte Wells. After Sunand soon after, it was announced that he landed a lead role in Gladiator 2.
And now, we have an exciting update on filming the sequel from the man himself.
At the BAFTA earlier this month, Deadline asked Mescal about when he starts filming in Gladiator 2.
“I’m not sure what the exact start date is, but it’s in the summer,” he replied.
When asked if he started the process of bulking up for the role, he said with a laugh, “Dude, what are you saying?”
“But, yes, this is in process,” he added.
Mescal joins Ridley Scott’s long-awaited sequel to the 2000 hit film as Lucius, son of Lucilla and nephew of Commodus – characters played by Connie Nielsen and Joaquin Phoenix, respectively, in the original film.
Spencer Treat Clark played Lucius in Gladiatorand Mescal will play an adult version of the character in the sequel.
O Normal people actor is currently nominated for his first Academy Award in the Best Actor category for playing single dad Calum Paterson in the film After Sun. He is nominated alongside his Irish counterpart and Inisherin’s Banshees actor Colin Farrell, elvisby Austin Butler, the whales Brendan Fraser and of life Bill Nighy.
Reacting to his Oscar nomination, Mescal said in a statement: “This is truly a special moment for everyone involved in the After Sun. To be recognized by the Academy is such an insane honor and I am totally grateful.
“I want to dedicate this nomination to my two friends Charlotte and Frankie, who I love very much! That’s bananas, thank you!”
